Chapter 6: Goodbye my Friend.
I opened my eyes, I could feel they were heavy and puffy, but I wasn’t blinded by the sunlight as I expected. In fact, everything was blue. My eyes focused and I saw the sun, but it was dull. The blue sky outside seemed, reflective like plastic, and red veins struck down like bolts of lightning.  Till I realized, it was Ceara’s wing. I looked to my right and saw her face. Okay too close. Without me noticing, she had put me in a hug, with her wings and arms. And I was starting to feel uncomfortable. After all, I had been hugging my knees.
“Ceara.” I chimed softly.
Her eyes slowly opened. Then she blinked a couple times. She let go of me, drowsily.
“Good Morning.” I said stretching my arms and legs.
“Morning,” she said softly. She stretched too, that was way too uncomfortable, and weird.
“Between the two of us, that never happened, alright?” I asked.
She nodded.
It was quiet this morning. I guess neither one of us knew how to break the ice, especially after I told her everyone I know is dead thanks to her father’s orders.
Then she finally said, “Have you ever went back to Nox?”
I shook my head, my life was so busy, and I wasn’t able to go. And even if I did, I can’t even remember my family’s faces. And going to see them, felt like an insult.
“Want to go,” she asked.
“I can’t.” I said flatly.
“Why not?” she asked.
“I would make my family worry. You’re my owner remember? If the ghosts of my family saw that, they would do much more than shift in their graves.”
She gave me a blank expression.
“That means, they wouldn’t be able to rest in peace. It doesn’t mean that dead wolves are alive or something,” I explained quickly. “Not only that, I can’t remember my family’s faces. It would be insulting to go see them.”
“I think you still should see them anyway. I’m sure they’d be happier to know that you’re alive and kicking, rather than stuck in some hospital forever.”
“Maybe,” I muttered.
She started to walk out the cave until she turned around and said, “What are you doing, let’s go, before your evil dragon owner has a change of heart.”
****************
Nox was a full mile away, and I was surprised that Ceara would go so far for me. Especially walking there.
I was expecting to have grown in the crater, but instead the area was a dry empty circle. Nothing grew here, it was just a ditch, I guess the government thought this area was forsaken so all they did was clean up the ashes.
There were a few melted brass pipes sticking out of the ground. The emptiness expanded onward for a mile.  There were no other remains, not even pieces of the wall.
“Wow,” said Ceara quietly once she took it all in.
“So this is the resting grounds of… Everyone.” I muttered as if the dead was listening to me. In the distance I was answered by the rustling of trees and the chirping birds. It seemed like nature had no interest in listening to the silence of death.
I knelt down and put my hands together in a small prayer. Then I thought to myself, ‘Mom, Dad, Sis? Do you hear me?’ I wondered. Of course they would want to hear my voice.
“Mom, Dad, sis! I’ve grown tall and strong. I’ve become a soldier and I’ll me everyone in this graveyard feel proud…”  I said this, but it didn’t sit right.
I turned around and said to Ceara, “I… I don’t know what to say.”
I felt my eyes water, I still can’t remember my parents face.
I looked back and said ,”Don’t worry, the dragon is with me.”
“I’ve been training all my life since the day I left. I trained and trained till my powers were good enough to impress the military.”
“They brought me in and look!”
I summoned my lance and saw it was still a dull grey color.
“Ceara, let’s go.” I said standing up.
She nodded and we started to walk back.
************
“I never knew dragon food was this tasty.” I admitted.
“What, did you think we ate dog food.” Asked Ceara.
I snorted and cracked a smile.
“What?!” she said angrily. “That would make more sense for you!”
I chuckled softly and realized, the past couple of days, I was smiling and laughing. My smile slowly drooped down to a more sober and sad smile. I realized that, my friend, and only friend, is a dragon. Not even someone from my own race. I was never told stuff that made me chuckle or laugh. Nor have I ever said anything to ever make someone else laugh. My eyes slowly watered at my realization. Ceara turned back and looked at me and asked with a frown, “What’s wrong?”
“You know. In the past ten years, I’ve never had a friend like you.” I said my voice cracking, a tear ran through the fur on my cheek. “It was a good thing, to have met you. Thank you.”
“Wolves are tough, so don’t break and cry on me like this again.” Said Ceara, walking over to me.
“But, but,” I sobbed.
“For a wolf you’re alright too,” Ceara muttered. I smiled and drew her into a hug.
She turned around and clasped both my armored hands. Then she uttered something and I felt the release of magic, like a fresh blow of the summer wind. She smiled, and her eyes became watery.
“Wait, what are you doing?” I cried.
“I’m letting you go.” She said, a tear rolling down her face.
“Wait, why?” I asked.
“You’re going to be happier amongst wolves. I know, you’re better than this.” She hugged me and whispered in my right ear, ”You’re a good wolf. Quit the army and live your life. You’ll be happier that way.”
“Wait. You can’t.” I whined like a child.
“I can’t keep you around, I’m not that type of person. I like you, that’s why I’m cutting you lose. Because, you shouldn’t be here to solve my boredom and loneliness.”
“Then let’s both leave, let’s both go to the side of the Breakers.” I said softly.
“I can’t. I’d drag the group down.” Said Ceara. “It’s better if we stay separated. Go home. That’s what your family would want.”
She let me go and I let her go.
I smiled bitterly, and said, “Can I go tomorrow morning?”
“Yeah.” She said.
“Maybe you can even have breakfast.” Said Ceara.
“Yeah,” I said, but I realized that would be bad. If I went back and the others smelled Dragon food on my breath, then they would get scared. Instead, I’ll leave tonight, it’ll be less painful that way. “Do you want your gauntlets back?”
“No, keep them, I have the blue prints for a better one.” Said Ceara.
We talked until the moon came up and outside the sound of crickets filled the night sky. Soon we both said, “Goodnight.”
I nodded and sat down on the floor. I waited till I heard a soft snore, in the symphony of crickets.
I stood up and was almost tempted to hug her once more. But it would be more painful.
Instead I knelt down by the entrance and wrote with a finger.
‘Ceara it was fun. Thanks a lot for everything. I hope someday, the war ends, and then we can talk to the sun comes up.’ I smiled softly and stood up. It’s time to go. I blinked once, and forced my smile to disappear, and replaced it with a serious stern expression.

(Setsuna Damius Note: I’ve still got a ways to go before I finish this story. I don’t know what else to say. I hope someday in the future I can write emotions much better. Because I want to make my readers feel some sympathy and sadness with my writing.)
The Fifth Chapter of my story Wolf and Dragon

Still doing good, still liking it so far. I'm glad there is a lot more of this story left to go. When I comes to writing emotion, I've tried to explain what each character is seeing along with what they are feeling. I believe if you give the reader more time in that 'snapshot' of time where the emotion is the strongest, then you get more of a response.
